Connecting and growing our communities.
QRS's long-reach mower operators Isa Robertson (pictured working on Tunanui Rd), Tim Winiana, James Wieczorek and Sean Hadcroft, are busy this month mowing unwanted roadside vegetation after a burst of hot humid weather.
We’re contracted by Wairoa District Council to provide an annual mowing schedule for the region.
Roadsides are mown to maintain driver sightlines and limit fire hazards.
Our routine maintenance manager Michelle Hedley says February's weather was perfect for vegetation growth. “Staff mow about 3500km of sealed and unsealed roads per year. That’s twice the length of New Zealand!"
“Safety mowing” is the most important part of the job. Operators ensure all signs and traffic control devices are clearly visible, and that road users can see as far as practicable when driving. Staff can make up to six different cuts in some areas to get the visibility just right.
“Please remember that when driving around mowers and their pilot vehicles speed limits apply.”
