Award-winning company inspires application

Nadia White canva

Nadia White was so impressed when Quality Roading and Services won a Hawke’s Bay Chamber of Commerce Supreme Award that she decided to apply for a job with the company.

“They are a little company but it was so cool because they were from Wairoa.”

Nadia, Ngāti Rongomaiwahine, Ngāti Porou, attended the 2020 Chamber of Commerce awards dinner with her partner and QRS truck driver Jade Beattie. It was an extraordinary night for the large group of QRS staff who attended as the company won the Outstanding Community Contribution Award and the Supreme Business of the Year Award.

Nadia remembers the friendliness of QRS staff and their partners and felt proud that they went on to win so many accolades that night. “That was a great event and so that’s one of the reasons I wanted to come over.”

Nadia started with QRS in May 2022 and has worked in traffic control and in routine maintenance as a labourer. She’s worked on footpath maintenance and dropout repair and says she’s looking forward to expanding on her civil construction qualifications by earning machine operator licenses.

She says QRS is an easy place to walk into as a new staff member. “There’s no reason to be nervous. Everyone was welcoming and introduced themselves and showed me where to go. It’s a good atmosphere. I have been there two months and I feel happy. ”
