Melissa Stanaway rides into QRS

THE team in Quality Roading and Services' workshop have new competition for the title of company
grease monkey.

Freshly-appointed administrator and receptionist Melissa Stanaway is a vintage motorbike rider as well as secretary/treasurer of the Wairoa Motorcycle Sports Club.

While she admits husband Graeme takes care of most of the actual grease work, Melissa is still the owner of a 1954 James motorcycle and a 1972 Indian MT 125.

Melissa rides for fun on and off the road. One weekend might see her heading to Gisborne to compete in beach races; another she might meet up with a mate and take her 1996 Moto Guzzi road bike for a ride.

It's a passion, she says. “For me there's a real sense of engagement . . . when you are riding, you forget about everything else. At that moment you are totally present, the ride is all there is.”

When she’s not astride a bike, Melissa is supporting teen son Riley at motocross events. Also a keen photographer, she can be found with camera in hand at the track or taking family portrait photos around the district.

When she’s at home, though, it’s work that holds her attention and she says getting to know the team at QRS has been fun.

Formerly an administrator at a car dealership, Melissa has brought with her a range of skills to apply to her new role, from handling inquiries to processing accounts.

Melissa has been relishing the new environment and the chance to grasp fresh opportunities at
QRS. “Wairoa being such a small, friendly place, I already knew many of the people working here so it's been a pretty easy transition.
